The previous brand leant heavily into the technological and scientific aspects of their work, but we’ve repositioned them as a business working at the forefront of food security.

We and our production partners have a ‘fabric-first’ approach to energy efficiency, providing long term low-energy performance with an emphasizes on low-toxicity, natural and sustainable materials. Because we use wood-based products for the majority of our construction, these materials sequester carbon within the fabric of the building such that we can deliver carbon negative construction. For the interiors, koto embraced a minimal and timeless aesthetic that they call ‘quiet luxury’. The second floor features exposed CLT surfaces while the first floor walls are painted with st leo interiors plaster paint to create a ‘perfectly imperfect’ earthy texture.

The studio was chosen for the project thanks to its extensive collaboration history with firms within Index Ventures' portfolio, such as Blablacar, Trailine, and Discord. Koto also has a proven track record working with venture capital industry giants like a16z, Partech, Lightspeed Ventures, Cherry Ventures, and Blossom Capital. Index Press is a culmination of resources, from books, podcasts, and articles to interactive apps. It was developed so that founders can benchmark performance and make data-driven decisions, aligning their growth with successful tech startups like Airbnb, Figma, Plaid, Robinhood, and Slack. They have created an ‘off the shelf’ housing solution, that addresses the demands of our changing mindsets towards house buying. The houses are a sculptural interpretation of the small buildings that you see across europe, from bothys to alpine huts and norwegian hytte. These small pitched roof buildings are an integral part of the landscape and provide warmth, shelter and an opportunity to fully immerse in nature. Each bedroom is designed to feel like a private retreat within the landscape, key pieces of furniture all from Hay have been curated to create a calm, minimal environment. Occupants can enjoy flexible space, to sleep, to relax and to disconnect.
Flooded by natural light and cosy nooks, Koto prefab cabins maximise use of space whilst connecting the user to the outside world, providing a sense of calm. In home settings, Koto prefab cabins effectively act as an elegant extension, offering that much appreciated ‘extra’ space for families to live, work and play in. Our ambition has been to create a lifestyle brand that is centered around the Nordic concept Friluftsliv (pronounced free-loofts-liv), an expression that translates to “open-air living”.
"This dual-font approach mirrors the diverse perspectives central to the Index Press brand, creating a visually dynamic and engaging experience", says Howard. Index Ventures' foundational philosophy is that "Ideas don't build businesses, People do", so the Index Press brand concept evolved from this. One of the main ambitions for Index Press is that it would be able to deliver impactful insights in a saturated content landscape, acting as "A Signal in the Noise". We helped them with a rebrand that emphasized ‘never neutral’ – an identity that inspires positive action for the planet.
Throughout the buildings, expansive concealed storage walls maximize floor space and maintain clean aesthetics. The space is flooded by natural light, cozy nooks and generous bespoke window seats, maximizing use of space whilst connecting the user to the outside world. 1, 2, 3 or 4-bed combinations with additional ‘add-ons’ including outdoor showers and saunas.
